“I am an openly gay person who works in the news media, covering this but also feeling this as a gay person. It’s interesting. The thing that I’m realizing is that gay people have very practical feelings about this.
This is about our lives. This is about our families. This is about whether or not we are hurt by policy made in the public arena. The symbolic value is important and does mean a lot to us, but mostly we want practical policies that help us.”
-Rachel Maddow on The Today Show talking about the implications of Obama coming out in support of same sex marriage.
Rachel Maddow’s coverage on all things marriage equality. I know this is almost a week old but to be honest, I’ve been kind of grieving under a rock for the last week.
For those of you who haven’t seen it, get ready for some Rachel Maddow awesomeness where she proves that people are idiots with that big smile on her face. If you wait until 4:31, you get to hear Mayor Cory Booker from Newark, NJ sound like a BAMF!
And yes, they mention NC!
Depression for me is you can’t distract your way out of it, and I think people can understand the difference, if you’ve never been depressed, you can still understand the difference between sadness and depression. It’s like the opposite of love isn’t hate, it’s indifference. And the opposite of happiness isn’t necessarily sadness, it’s disconnection. And you know, when you are depressed, it’s like the rest of the world is the mothership and you’re out there on a little pod and your line gets cut, and you just don’t connect with anything, you sort of – you sort of disappear.

Rachel Maddow owns Republican pundit who says women don’t actually make less money than men.
This was pretty beautiful. (If you’re wondering what the president’s done for equal pay, Lilly Ledbetter can tell you.)
“People are not poor because they think it sounds like a great idea. People are poor because they don’t have any other opportunities. We need to raise as many boats as we can. Helping out rich people was a theory that we tried. It did not help anybody else except rich people.” - Rachel Maddow
I love that they made a solid advertisement out of a righteous, well-spoken lady in a hoodie. The times they are a-changing.
Can I just regularly chill in a bar talking liberal politics (with the occasional TV discussion and CD swap) with Rachel Maddow? Please?
